Where Zombies Walk is a work of fiction in the dystopian science fiction, action, and adventure subgenre, and forms the first novel of the Kendra's Journey book series. The work is intended for mature adult audiences owing to scenes of graphic violence, sexual content, and explicit language throughout. Penned by author Eileen Sheehan, we enter a dystopian world reeling from the aftermath of a nuclear war and the dominion of an alien government. The story revolves around Kendra and her family, who were unwittingly involved in the creation of a zombie virus that was intended to subdue Russia but spiraled out of control due to an unforeseen alien invasion. Kendra's aunt is one of the scientists behind the virus, harboring a dangerous secret that could change everything.

Author Eileen Sheehan has crafted a story that keeps readers on the edge of their seats while also delving into the complexities of human relationships and the resilience of the human spirit. There’s a seamless interweaving of different elements of dystopian fiction, science fiction, and romance in a cinematic narrative filled with action, peril, and suspense, making for a fully emotive and immersive experience. The dynamic between Kendra and Rex, her lover, adds an emotional core to the story, and their journey through this dangerous world is both thrilling and emotionally charged. As Kendra navigates a world overrun by zombies and an alien regime with sinister intentions, we also explore themes of survival, identity, and the consequences of human experimentation that run very psychologically deep. Overall, Where Zombies Walk is a highly recommended dystopian read that sets the stage for an intriguing series, and I look forward to the next installment.

Eileen Sheehan’s Where Zombies Walk is the first book in her Kendra’s Journey series. The aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse ushers in an alien-dominated regime, mutants, and zombies. The cure for the virus that created the zombies during the war was lost. After cyborgs attacked their clan, Olga took three surviving toddlers to raise them in the wilderness. She made a home in a secret cave and cared for Felix, Rupert, and Kendra. After injuring her ankle, Kendra killed a mountain lion. A strange girl appeared. Kendra didn’t trust Ari and declined her offer of help. In the cave, Olga discovered a tracking chip on the mountain lion. After he attempted to rape Kendra, Rupert left, promising that he would be back. They decided to find a new home, but while camping, Rex attempted to steal food and water from them. After explaining his situation, he led them to a compound in Zombie Land. However, Kendra encountered a danger worse than zombies.

Eileen Sheehan did not have a single dull moment in this dystopian romance story. Kendra’s physical strength and accuracy with a bow and arrow show how vital she was to her family. I admired the unfailing determination of Kendra and Felix. The deep conversations Olga engaged in with the others were enlightening. The slow building of romance between Kendra and Rex was relatable. Living within the boundaries of Zombie Land is something I would want to avoid. Despite Olga’s maternal feelings, Rupert’s actions against Kendra and Felix were vile. The amount of vivid detail describing the surroundings made them easy to envision. Every transition between the perspectives of the characters was seamless. The exceptional intrigue caused by the unpredictable plot twists swept me away. The conclusion shocked me, as I never expected the outcome. Where Zombies Walk will appeal to readers who enjoy survival stories with zombies, aliens, and conflicting agendas for rebuilding after an apocalypse.

Where Zombies Walk by Eileen Sheehan is set in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies, cyborgs, and alien rulers. Protagonist Kendra hunts a genetically unaltered mountain lion for food and becomes trapped in zombie-infested territory, facing mutated cannibalistic humans. Ari and her brother Baelil believe Kendra possesses vital virus-related information to protect their hidden community and find a cure. The group finds an abandoned camp, improving their living conditions. Their newfound peace is shattered by a zombie attack, where Kendra's archery skills shine as she saves her cousin Felix, earning the respect of Rex, their protector. Kendra is caught in a tailspin of emotion, sex, and the construct of the new social structure. Danger within and outside the group escalates, a tiny new member changes the dynamic, and the metaphysical comes into play in their struggle for survival.

Where Zombies Walk by Eileen Sheehan is the first book in the Kendra's Journey series, and it changes the traditional nuclear dystopian zombie fare with a unique alien twist and the incorporation of fantasy elements incrementally. Kendra is extremely likable as a strong female protagonist, and she really does work hard to retain agency over her body in a new world where breeding programs exist and nothing is off the table, including incest. Sheehan has a knack for world-building, even if that world is uncomfortable, and I really loved how thoroughly developed all of the characters were. My favorite was Kendra's aunt Olga, who has some serious information in her back pocket. It is rare to find a novel where the women, despite being oppressed, are written as the characters with the highest intellect. Overall, this is a solid entry for a new series with plenty of room to grow bigger and better.

A great read [FROM AMAZON]

Kendra’s story was a captivating apocalyptic story. Although she grew up isolated in a world ruled by aliens, she was strong and fought to save herself and the human race. Her mission wasn’t an easy one. This is a real page-turner that had everything, not only Zombies, Aliens and Mutants but also action, suspense, and romance. This is a very well written book, It’s a great read for paranormal lovers. I can’t wait to read book two.

Some serious situations occur in this book! [FROM AMAZON]

We learn what life is like after an Apocalypse for the characters as we read. How many things can go wrong one after the other before humankind says, "Enough is enough!" and starts to fight back if at all? Who are Kendra, Olga, Felix, and Rupert? What happens when Kendra brings back her second successful, safe kill? Who are Ari, Baelil, Max, and Denai? Who is Rex and what is he doing when we meet him? So many things, good, bad, and otherwise happen in thie story. Already I cannot wait for book 2 in this series. There were things that made me angry, happy, and wanting to get vengence. This story is definitely bordering on the verge of erotic in some senses in my opinion and was a fun read.
